ABOUT CANDY
For more than 20 years I have been in full-time practice as a Behaviour Consultant. I treat behavioural problems in dogs and cats: my experience, together with a sound academic background, ensures that you and your pet receive a professional service.
I have spent my entire life around animals, from having my own childhood pets to working in a veterinary surgery while at school, and then on to university to study Biology and Animal Behaviour.
I continued in academia to Master’s and then Doctorate level, interspersed with periods of further work experience both in the UK and around the world in wildlife conservation, where I focused on and specialised in wild canids (wolves, jackals, foxes and dogs), particularly endangered species (the Canadian swift fox and the Ethiopian wolf).
This brought me nicely back to domestic dogs and cats in the UK, and I started a career as a Behaviour Consultant approximately 21 years ago, gaining professional accreditation at the highest level as a Certified Clinical Animal Behaviourist.
My goal for pet owners is to help improve the pet-owner relationship, by assisting them in gaining a better understanding of their dog or cat’s behaviours. My methods are force-free and psychologically sound, following the principles of learning theory and ethology.
Alongside this, I am a court-accredited Expert Witness as a Dog Behaviour Specialist in both prosecution and defence cases, conducting behavioural assessment and breed identification of dogs whose owners are facing prosecution.
As well as dealing with behavioural issues, I also assess dogs whose owners wish to foster, adopt or mind children and need to meet agency safety requirements, or when local authorities have concerns about a dog's behaviour in the family home. I assess dogs for schools wishing to introduce a "school dog" to their pupils.
I am based in Hampshire but do travel! For legal work my range is nationwide.
